Irish Web Technology Conference 2008

I'll be giving a Django talk at the Irish Web Technology Conference 2008 (IWTC). It looks set to be a good conference, with virtually every major player (Sun, Adobe, Microsoft) there and many different talks scheduled.

The Python Ireland folks will be manning a booth there, handing out flyers and posters, so why not drop over and say hi.

Surprisingly good reddit comments on Irish article

I was very surprised when I read the reddit comments on this Guardian article about spoken Irish in Ireland. For once the comments are consistently better than the article itself, pointing out some obvious flaws. Plus a good amount of Irish spoken in the comments too :)

Python Talks this Wednesday

The Python Ireland group will be hosting another round of talks this Wednesday. The nice folks at OpenApp will be providing a room for us to use.

The talks for this month are:

  • Introduction to Jython - Sean McGrath
  • Introduction to WSGI - Michael Twomey (AKA me)

Space is a little limited (about 20 will sit comfortably) so give us a shout on the Python Ireland mailing list if you want to attend. We just want to know when things are going to get too packed.

I'm aiming the WSGI talk at folks who have never even heard of it before, but who are interested in web programming. I want to show what can be done at a high level, then talk about a simple specific example. Since WSGI is so simple the sample code will be dead easy to follow, well, as long as I don't get fancy :)

Python Ireland T-Shirts For All

(well for everyone who pays that is)

I've just picked up a batch of Python Ireland t-shirts from the nice folks at The Camdem Clothing Company. These are just the python logo with an "Ireland" stuck in a the bottom, but they look very nice.

I've only got 50, so I won't be handing these out like water. I'm also deciding how much to charge people to recoup my costs :)

Update 16:48

A quick pencil and calculator calculation gives me aroun €7.00 a t-shirt.

I've got t-shirts pegged for:

  • Vicky
  • Sean
  • Pádraig

Python.ie gets a makeover

Sean has given the python.ie homepage a makeover, giving lots of useful info and generally making it nicer and more useful.
